Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep an eye on with this combo cold product. The piece that matters is the phenylephrine, which is a decongestant with mild stimulant-like effects on your body. Pu-erh tea naturally contains caffeine, and caffeine is also a stimulant. Stacking the two together can pile up those effects.

In real life that might mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, feeling jittery or restless, a bump in blood pressure, or trouble sleeping. The chlorpheniramine in the product can make you drowsy, so you may feel a little pushed and pulled at the same time. This is mostly expert opinion rather than hard proof, and a cup or two of tea is unlikely to cause trouble for most people. If you have high blood pressure or heart concerns, check with your pharmacist first.
