Enfortumab Vedotin-Ejfv falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP3A4 substrates may increase the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems strongly inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity.

Here's the short version with Padcev (enfortumab vedotin). This is an antibody-drug conjugate, meaning it carries a tiny chemotherapy payload (called MMAE) that gets released and broken down partly by an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that rooibos may slow this enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more of the active drug linger in your body, which might bump up side effects like numbness or tingling in your hands and feet, skin rashes, high blood sugar, tiredness, or low blood counts.

That said, this is very weak, test-tube-only evidence, not something proven in people. A cup or two of rooibos tea is unlikely to be a real problem. Still, since Padcev is serious cancer therapy, please mention any rooibos tea or concentrated extracts to your oncology team before changing anything.

What Is Enfortumab vedotin-ejfv Injection Used For?

Brand name: Padcev

  • Enfortumab vedotin-ejfv injection is used to treat urothelial cancer (cancer of the lining of the bladder and other parts of the urinary tract) that has spread to nearby tissues or other parts of the body or cannot be removed by surgery, and has worsened after treatment with other chemotherapy medications or if these chemotherapy medications cannot be used for treatment. Enfortumab vedotin-ejfv injection is in a class of medications called monoclonal antibodies. It works by helping your immune system to slow or stop the growth of cancer cells.
