Mobocertinib Succinate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP3A4 substrates may increase the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems strongly inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist for your lung cancer medicine. Mobocertinib is cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that rooibos may slow that enzyme down. If that held true in people, your body would clear mobocertinib more slowly, letting levels climb a bit higher than expected.

Why that matters: mobocertinib already carries a real risk of heart rhythm changes (a longer QT interval), diarrhea, nausea, and mouth sores, and higher levels could make those worse. But honestly, this is theoretical, based only on test-tube research using concentrated extracts, not actual patients drinking tea. A regular cup is unlikely to be a problem, but please run it by your oncology pharmacist or doctor to be safe.

  • Mobocertinib is used to treat a certain type of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that cannot be removed by surgery and has spread to other parts of the body either during or after treatment with platinum chemotherapy medications. Mobocertinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells and may help shrink tumors.
