Here's the honest version: the concern on file links rooibos to drugs broken down by an enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab dish studies suggest rooibos extract may slow that enzyme a little, which in theory could let some medications build up. But this is very early data, from test tubes and animals, not people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

On top of that, Vosevi (sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir) doesn't really lean on CYP1A2 for its clearance, so a cup of rooibos tea is unlikely to change how it works or cause extra side effects like headache, tiredness, or nausea. Enjoy your tea, but if you're tempted to take concentrated rooibos extracts during your hepatitis C treatment, run that by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the situation with Vosevi (sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, and voxilaprevir). Part of this combo, especially voxilaprevir, is handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, a concentrated rooibos extract slowed that same enzyme down. If that happened in the body, the medication could clear a little more slowly and build up, which might mean more side effects like headache, tiredness, nausea, or diarrhea.

The good news: this is purely theoretical and based only on lab work, not on real people. A normal cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause any trouble. I'd be more cautious with concentrated rooibos extracts or capsules. Either way, it's a quick, easy thing to run by your pharmacist or doctor before you start.

What Is Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, and Voxilaprevir Used For?

Brand name: Vosevi

Vosevi is used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults who do not have cirrhosis or who have compensated cirrhosis (mild liver scarring that is still functioning). It is specifically for people who have already been treated with an HCV regimen before and need a different option.

Vosevi is approved for adults with HCV genotype 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 who previously took a medicine that included an NS5A inhibitor. It is also approved for adults with genotype 1a or 3 who previously took sofosbuvir without an NS5A inhibitor.
