Tolterodine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP2D6 substrates may increase the effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist for Detrol (tolterodine): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear this medicine out. Lab studies hint that compounds in rooibos may slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happens, tolterodine could hang around longer and feel a little stronger than usual.

What might that look like? More of tolterodine's typical effects, like dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness, or a fast heartbeat. The good news is this is only seen in test-tube research using concentrated rooibos extracts, not in people, and a regular cup of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you're sipping it often or using extracts and notice these side effects, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Here's the situation with rooibos and tolterodine (Detrol). Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 as one way to clear tolterodine out of your system. Lab studies hint that concentrated rooibos extract may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in a person, tolterodine could build up a bit and its effects could feel stronger. With this drug, that usually means more of its common side effects, like dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness, or drowsiness.

The good news: this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding, not something proven in people. A regular cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated extracts are the bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist before using those.

Tolterodine — available as tablets (including Detrol and Tolterodine Tartrate tablets) and extended-release capsules (including Detrol LA and Tolterodine Tartrate extended-release capsules) — is prescribed for overactive bladder. It targets three main symptoms: a sudden, hard-to-control urge to urinate (urgency), urinating too often (frequency), and leaking urine when that urge hits (urge urinary incontinence).

All approved forms and brands share this same indication. No additional or separate uses are listed in the prescribing information for any individual product.
