Here's the simple version: doxepin is a sedating medication, especially when used for sleep, and sassafras is thought to have its own mild calming, drowsy effect. Put the two together and the worry is that those sleepy effects could stack on top of each other. With doxepin that might show up as extra grogginess, a foggy or hungover feeling the next morning, dizziness, or feeling more out of it than usual.

I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical. It's based on how these things behave, not on solid human studies. Even so, I'd steer clear of internal sassafras for a bigger reason: it contains safrole, which the FDA banned in food because of liver and cancer risks. Please don't start or stop anything on your own, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
