Here's the simple version: Flurazepam (Dalmane) is already a strong sleep aid that calms down your brain. Sassafras has its own mild sedating, relaxing quality, so taking the two together could theoretically pile on top of each other. The worry is extra drowsiness, more morning grogginess, dizziness, or feeling unusually foggy and uncoordinated the next day.

I'll be honest with you, though: this concern is theoretical, based on how these things work, not on real cases in people. The bigger issue is sassafras itself. It contains safrole, which the FDA banned in foods because it can damage the liver and may cause cancer, so I wouldn't take it internally at all. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with flurazepam.

Sassafras is an aromatic North American tree whose root bark and oil were once popular in teas and as a flavoring, but it contains safrole, a compound the FDA has banned in foods because it can cause cancer and liver damage. There is no good evidence it safely treats any health condition, and most experts recommend avoiding internal use. If you want the flavor, choose products that are labeled safrole-free.

Flurazepam Hydrochloride capsules are used to treat insomnia. Specifically, they help with difficulty falling asleep, frequent wake-ups during the night, and early morning awakening.

Because insomnia is often short-lived, flurazepam is generally intended for short-term use. If sleep problems don't improve within 7 to 10 days of treatment, a healthcare provider should evaluate whether an underlying medical or psychiatric condition may be the cause.
