Here's the gist with slippery elm and your amphetamine (Dyanavel XR, Mydayis, Adzenys, and others). Slippery elm's main ingredient is a sticky, gel-like fiber called mucilage. The thinking is that when it coats your stomach and gut, it could form a barrier that slows down or slightly blocks how much of an oral medication gets absorbed into your bloodstream.

For amphetamine, that would mean you might absorb a little less of your dose, which could make it feel like it's working weaker or wearing off sooner (for example, less focus or more daytime sleepiness if you take it for narcolepsy). I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the fiber behaves, not something proven in real patients. A simple fix many people use is spacing the two apart by a couple of hours. Run that timing by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
