Spearmint + Chlortetracycline
Chlortetracycline brand name: Aureomycin.
Spearmint has a moderate interaction with Chlortetracycline. Theoretically, high doses of spearmint might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlortetracycline
Chlortetracycline falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Spearmint interacts with.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for spearmint and chlortetracycline (Aureomycin). This is a tetracycline antibiotic, and like many antibiotics it can occasionally put a little stress on the liver. The concern on file is simple: spearmint may also be hard on the liver in large amounts, so stacking the two could, in theory, add up.
I want to be honest about how shaky this is. The worry comes only from animal studies where rats drank concentrated spearmint tea for a month and showed higher liver enzymes. That hasn't been seen in people. A little spearmint in food or an occasional cup of tea is very unlikely to matter. If you're taking strong spearmint supplements daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Spearmint
What is Spearmint?
- Digestive upset and indigestion
- Nausea
- Hormonal acne and unwanted hair (PCOS-related)
- Memory and focus
- Mild stress and anxiety
- Joint discomfort
Spearmint is a common culinary mint that is generally safe in food and tea amounts.
