Here's the connection to keep in mind. Steroids like budesonide can lower your body's potassium over time, especially with longer courses. Squill carries potent heart-active compounds (cardiac glycosides) that work much like digoxin, and they too can pull potassium down. Stack the two together and you could end up with low potassium and an electrolyte imbalance, which may show up as muscle weakness, cramps, fatigue, or an irregular heartbeat.

To be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how both behave, not something proven in studies, so I don't want you to panic. But squill is genuinely toxic and not something I'd recommend taking, particularly alongside a steroid. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What is Squill?

Squill

Squill is a bulb plant that contains potent cardiac glycosides, which can affect the heart much like the drug digoxin. While it has a long history of use as a cough remedy and heart tonic, it can be dangerously toxic and there is little solid evidence for its modern use, so we do not recommend taking it without close medical supervision.

What Is Budesonide Used For?

Brand names: Entocort EC, Pulmicort, Uceris, Tarpeyo, Eohilia

Budesonide inhalation suspension is used as a maintenance (long-term control) treatment for asthma in children 12 months to 8 years old. It also works as a preventive (prophylactic) therapy to reduce the frequency of asthma symptoms.

Important: This medication is not a rescue inhaler. It will not stop a sudden asthma attack. A separate fast-acting bronchodilator is needed for sudden symptoms.
