Here's the connection to watch with triamcinolone. This steroid can cause your body to lose potassium over time, especially with long-term or higher-dose use. Squill contains potent heart-acting compounds (cardiac glycosides, much like digoxin), and these become more dangerous when potassium runs low. So the worry isn't that one changes how the other is broken down. It's that both can pull potassium in the same direction, and a low potassium level can trigger irregular heartbeats and muscle weakness from the squill side.

This is a theoretical concern based on how these substances work, not on strong studies. Even so, squill is genuinely toxic and not something I'd recommend taking. If you're on triamcinolone and considering squill, please talk with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Squill is a bulb plant that contains potent cardiac glycosides, which can affect the heart much like the drug digoxin. While it has a long history of use as a cough remedy and heart tonic, it can be dangerously toxic and there is little solid evidence for its modern use, so we do not recommend taking it without close medical supervision.

What Is Triamcinolone Used For?

Brand names: Aristocort, Kenacort, Adcortyl Intra-articular / Intradermal, Kenalog Intra-articular / Intramuscular, Adcortyl in Orabase, Triesence

Triamcinolone is available in many forms — injections, creams, ointments, nasal sprays, dental pastes, and eye injections — each approved for specific uses. Injectable forms given into muscle are used when oral steroids aren't an option, covering severe allergies (like asthma flares, severe skin reactions, drug reactions, and serum sickness), serious skin diseases, certain endocrine (hormonal) disorders, and more.

Injections given directly into a joint (intra-articular) or soft tissue help with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, gout flares, bursitis, and tendon inflammation. Injections into skin lesions (intralesional) treat conditions such as keloids, alopecia areata, and psoriatic plaques. Triesence (an ophthalmic injection) is specifically indicated for eye conditions like uveitis and temporal arteritis, and for visualization during eye surgery. Topical creams, ointments, lotions, and sprays relieve itching and inflammation from corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions. Dental paste forms (Oralone, Kourzeq) treat painful mouth sores from injury. Nasal sprays temporarily relieve hay fever and upper respiratory allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and congestion.
