Minocycline Hydrochloride falls under TETRACYCLINE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Squill interacts with.

Tetracycline antibiotics appear to increase the gastrointestinal absorption of oral digoxin. Theoretically, concomitant use of tetracycline antibiotics might increase the absorption of the cardiac glycosides found in squill.

Here's the idea behind this one. Squill contains natural heart-acting chemicals (cardiac glycosides) that behave a lot like the heart medication digoxin. Tetracycline-type antibiotics, and minocycline falls in that family, are thought to help the gut soak up more of these glycosides. So in theory, taking minocycline alongside squill could raise the amount of squill's heart chemicals in your body, which could mean a stronger effect on your heart, like a slower or irregular heartbeat, nausea, or feeling faint.

I'll be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on how these drugs behave, not from solid studies. Minocycline itself isn't activated by your liver in a way that changes this, so the worry is purely the absorption boost. Squill is already risky on its own, so please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Squill is a bulb plant that contains potent cardiac glycosides, which can affect the heart much like the drug digoxin. While it has a long history of use as a cough remedy and heart tonic, it can be dangerously toxic and there is little solid evidence for its modern use, so we do not recommend taking it without close medical supervision.

About Minocycline

What Is Minocycline Used For?

Brand names: Ximino, Minolira

Oral and intravenous minocycline products treat many serious bacterial infections, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever, respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections such as lymphogranuloma venereum and nongonococcal urethritis, plague, cholera, brucellosis, tularemia, and others caused by susceptible organisms. MINOCIN Intravenous is used when oral therapy is not adequate or tolerated.

Extended-release oral minocycline tablets are indicated specifically for inflammatory lesions of moderate to severe acne vulgaris in patients 12 years and older — not for treating infections. AMZEEQ (topical foam) treats inflammatory lesions of moderate to severe acne vulgaris in patients 9 years and older. ZILXI (topical foam) and EMROSI (oral capsule) are indicated for inflammatory lesions of rosacea in adults. ARESTIN (oral powder placed by a dental professional) is used alongside scaling and root planing to reduce pocket depth in adult periodontitis.
