Hydrochlorothiazide, Valsartan falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Squill interacts with.

Squill contains cardiac glycosides. Theoretically, concomitant use with potassium-depleting diuretics can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's the thing to know about pairing squill with Diovan HCT. Squill acts a lot like digoxin, a heart medicine that depends heavily on your potassium level staying normal. The hydrochlorothiazide half of Diovan HCT is a water pill that can lower your potassium. When potassium drops, those squill heart compounds become more potent and riskier, which can throw off your heart rhythm.

I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on how these substances behave, not on real-world reports with this exact combo. Even so, squill itself can be genuinely toxic, and we don't recommend it without close medical oversight. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two, and don't change your Diovan HCT on your own.

Squill is a bulb plant that contains potent cardiac glycosides, which can affect the heart much like the drug digoxin.
