Swamp Milkweed + Cefprozil
Cefprozil brand name: Cefzil.
We found no known interaction between Swamp Milkweed and Cefprozil in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Swamp Milkweed and Cefprozil
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Cefprozil and Swamp Milkweed in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Cefprozil
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Cefprozil is filed under 6 classifications — including organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates, organic anion transporter 1 (oat1) substrates, antibiotic drugs. Swamp Milkweed has documented interactions with 7 drug classes — the most serious being digoxin (lanoxin) (major), quinine (major) and corticosteroids (moderate) — and none of Cefprozil’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. See Every Supplement That Interacts With Cefprozil

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Asarabacca (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major), African Wild Potato (moderate) and Aristolochia (moderate).
By severity: 3 major · 46 moderate · 11 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cefprozil page
“Cefprozil (Cefzil) is a cephalosporin antibiotic, usually a short course for ear, sinus, throat, or skin infections, and three of the 60 supplements on this list warrant real caution even for a week of pills. Activated charcoal can bind the drug and pull it out of your system before it works.”

About Swamp Milkweed
What is Swamp Milkweed?
- Traditional digestive remedy
- Diuretic (increasing urine)
- Cough and respiratory complaints
- Worm or parasite remedy (folk use)
- Pollinator/garden plant rather than medicine
Swamp Milkweed is a native North American wetland plant best known today as a butterfly and pollinator garden plant, not a proven medicine. It contains toxic milky sap with cardiac glycoside-like compounds, and there is very little reliable human research to support any health use. Because of its potential toxicity, it should not be used as a supplement without professional guidance.
Asclepias incarnata · Apocynaceae · Root, and historically other parts of the plant · Dried root, tinctures, and traditional decoctions (rarely sold as a commercial supplement)
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Swamp Milkweed is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Swamp Milkweed record says about it on its own.
Swamp Milkweed: dosing
There is no established safe or standardized dose for Swamp Milkweed. It is not a mainstream supplement, and reliable products with verified content are not generally available.Because of the plant's toxicity and the lack of research, we cannot recommend any specific amount. For most people, the safest approach is to enjoy Swamp Milkweed as a garden plant rather than to consume it.

About Cefprozil
What Is Cefprozil Used For?
Brand name: Cefzil
Cefprozil tablets and oral suspension are both used to treat mild to moderate bacterial infections in adults and children. Approved uses include pharyngitis/tonsillitis (strep throat), acute sinusitis, otitis media (ear infections), acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections.
Cefprozil tablets are also approved for secondary bacterial infection of acute bronchitis. Because antibiotic resistance is a real concern, cefprozil should only be used when the infection is proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria that respond to it.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Cefprozil
From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (780 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.

Cefprozil Is Linked to Lower Levels of 7 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Cefprozil as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Swamp Milkweed — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
