Dabrafenib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Tansy Ragwort interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in tansy ragwort.
Tansy ragwort contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

First things first: tansy ragwort is a toxic plant and really shouldn't be taken internally at all. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which the liver can turn into harmful substances. Here's where dabrafenib (Tafinlar) comes in. Dabrafenib speeds up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, the same enzyme that converts those plant alkaloids into their liver-damaging forms. So in theory, taking dabrafenib alongside tansy ragwort could ramp up the production of those toxic byproducts and raise the risk of liver injury.

I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on lab data, not real patient cases. Still, since tansy ragwort offers no proven benefit and carries real liver risk, the simplest and safest move is to avoid it. Please check with your oncology team or pharmacist before using any herbal product while on dabrafenib.

About Dabrafenib

What Is Dabrafenib Used For?

Brand name: Tafinlar

Dabrafenib is used to treat cancers that carry a specific change (mutation) in the BRAF gene — most often called a BRAF V600E or V600K mutation. These mutations cause cancer cells to grow out of control. Before starting this medicine, a tumor test must confirm the mutation is present.

It can be used alone or — more commonly — paired with another targeted drug, trametinib. Conditions it treats include advanced or inoperable melanoma (skin cancer), certain lung cancers, anaplastic thyroid cancer, low-grade brain tumors (glioma) in children, and other solid tumors with the same mutation that haven't responded to prior treatment.
