Griseofulvin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Tansy Ragwort interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in tansy ragwort.
Tansy ragwort contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

First things first: tansy ragwort really shouldn't be taken internally at all. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which can seriously harm your liver on their own. So the bigger concern here isn't griseofulvin itself, it's that this plant is just plain unsafe to swallow.

Now, the specific interaction. Griseofulvin can speed up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. That same enzyme turns tansy ragwort's alkaloids into more toxic byproducts. So in theory, taking them together could ramp up liver damage. I'll be honest though: this is based on lab and animal data only, not real patient cases, so it's a theoretical worry rather than a proven one. Either way, please don't use tansy ragwort, and check with your pharmacist or doctor about any herbal product.

About Griseofulvin

What Is Griseofulvin Used For?

Brand names: Fulvicin PG, Fulvicin-U/F, Grisactin Ultra, Grisactin

Griseofulvin treats dermatophyte (ringworm-type) fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails that haven't cleared up with topical (cream or ointment) treatment alone. It is used for tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea barbae (ringworm of the beard area), tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp), and tinea unguium (fungal nail infection).

It only works against specific dermatophyte fungi. Griseofulvin does not treat bacterial infections, yeast infections (candidiasis), or other fungal infections such as histoplasmosis, sporotrichosis, or tinea versicolor. A lab test or fungal culture should confirm the infection before treatment starts.
