Rufinamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Tansy Ragwort interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in tansy ragwort.
Tansy ragwort contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

Let me be upfront here: the bigger concern isn't your seizure medicine, it's the tansy ragwort itself. This plant contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which your liver can turn into toxic byproducts that damage liver cells. It really shouldn't be taken internally at all, and there's no good evidence it helps with anything.

Rufinamide (Banzel) can mildly speed up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The worry is that revving up this enzyme could push the plant's compounds toward those harmful, liver-damaging byproducts faster. To be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal data, not human cases. Even so, the safest move is to simply avoid tansy ragwort, and please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using any herbal product alongside Banzel.

Rufinamide — available as Banzel and generic rufinamide — is used as an add-on treatment (alongside other seizure medicines) for seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe type of epilepsy that usually begins in childhood and causes multiple types of seizures.

This indication applies to both the tablet and oral suspension forms, for pediatric patients 1 year of age and older as well as adults.
