Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in tansy ragwort.
Tansy ragwort contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

First things first: tansy ragwort is not something you should be taking at all. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids that the liver can turn into substances toxic to liver cells. There is no good evidence it helps any condition, and it can cause real harm on its own.

Here's where Rifampin comes in. Rifampin is a powerful booster of a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. That same enzyme is what changes the alkaloids in tansy ragwort into their harmful, liver-damaging forms. So in theory, rifampin could speed up that conversion and make the plant's toxic effects worse, on top of the liver stress rifampin can already cause. This concern is theoretical, based on lab thinking rather than human studies, but the safest move is simple: don't use tansy ragwort, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before any herbal product.

About Rifampin

What Is Rifampin Used For?

Brand names: Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifadin Injection, Rofactor

Rifampin treats all forms of tuberculosis (TB). It is almost always used in combination with other antibiotics — your doctor will build a multi-drug regimen tailored to your infection. Treatment usually runs for at least 6 months total.

Rifampin is also used to clear Neisseria meningitidis bacteria from the nose and throat in people who carry the germ without being sick themselves. It is not used to treat active meningococcal disease. The intravenous (IV) forms — Rifadin IV, Rifadin IV NOVAPLUS, and the injectable form of Rifampin — are specifically indicated when a patient cannot take the drug by mouth.
