Oritavancin Diphosphate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Tansy Ragwort interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in tansy ragwort.
Tansy ragwort contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

First things first: tansy ragwort really shouldn't be taken internally at all. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which your liver can turn into substances that damage liver cells. The concern here is one-directional. Oritavancin (Orbactiv, Kimyrsa) can act as a mild CYP3A4 inducer, meaning it can nudge that liver enzyme to work faster. Since that same enzyme converts tansy ragwort's alkaloids into their toxic forms, the theory is that oritavancin could speed up that harmful conversion and raise the risk of liver injury.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is theoretical, based on lab work, not real patient cases. Oritavancin is usually a one-time or short infusion for skin infections, so exposure is brief. The bigger issue is the herb itself. Please skip the tansy ragwort and check with your doctor or pharmacist.

What Is Oritavancin Injection Used For?

Brand names: Orbactiv, Kimyrsa

Oritavancin injection — available as Orbactiv and Kimyrsa — is used to treat acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) in adults. These are serious skin infections caused by susceptible gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA), several Streptococcus species, and vancomycin-susceptible Enterococcus faecalis.

This antibiotic should only be used when a bacterial infection is confirmed or strongly suspected. Using it unnecessarily can contribute to antibiotic resistance.
