Armodafinil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Tansy Ragwort interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in tansy ragwort.
Tansy ragwort contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

Let me start with the big picture: tansy ragwort really shouldn't be taken at all. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids that can damage your liver on their own. So the safest answer here is to avoid it entirely, regardless of what else you're taking.

Now for the specific concern with armodafinil (Nuvigil). Armodafinil can rev up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. That same enzyme is what turns tansy ragwort's compounds into the toxic versions that harm liver cells. So in theory, armodafinil could make tansy ragwort more dangerous to your liver, not less. I want to be honest that this is a theoretical worry based on lab data, not real patient cases. Still, since tansy ragwort is risky by itself, please skip it and check with your pharmacist or doctor before any herbal product.

What Is Armodafinil Used For?

Brand name: Nuvigil

Armodafinil tablets (including the brand Nuvigil) are used to improve wakefulness in adults who have excessive sleepiness linked to one of three conditions: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), narcolepsy, or shift work disorder (SWD).

In obstructive sleep apnea, armodafinil treats the sleepiness itself — not the underlying airway obstruction. If CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep) is the right treatment for you, your doctor should try that first before adding armodafinil for sleepiness.
