Metoprolol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Terminalia interacts with.

Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes and reduces CYP2D6 substrate metabolism.

Here's the situation with these two. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break down metoprolol and clear it out. Lab studies hint that Terminalia arjuna may slow that enzyme down. If that happens in real life, metoprolol could linger longer and build up, meaning a stronger effect than intended.

For metoprolol, that might show up as a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, dizziness, or feeling unusually tired or lightheaded. I want to be honest, though: this is based only on test-tube research, not on people, so it's more of a theoretical concern than a proven one. Still, since metoprolol affects your heart, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Please don't change your dose on your own.

About Metoprolol

What Is Metoprolol Used For?

Brand names: Lopressor, Toprol XL

Metoprolol is used to treat several heart and blood pressure conditions. Metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets (including Toprol-XL) are approved for high blood pressure, angina pectoris (chest pain from the heart), and heart failure. Metoprolol tartrate tablets (including Lopressor) are approved for high blood pressure, angina, and — when used alongside intravenous metoprolol — to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death after a definite or suspected heart attack.

Metoprolol tartrate injection (intravenous form) is used in hemodynamically stable patients with a definite or suspected acute heart attack to reduce cardiovascular death, and is followed by oral metoprolol therapy. Lowering blood pressure with metoprolol reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
