SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS
Why this applies to Calcium Oxybate, Magnesium Oxybate, Potassium Oxybate, Sodium Oxybate
Calcium Oxybate, Magnesium Oxybate, Potassium Oxybate, Sodium Oxybate falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Thuja interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with combining Thuja and Xywav (the calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium oxybate mix). Concentrated Thuja products can contain thujone, a compound that can irritate the nervous system and, in high amounts, may make seizures more likely. Xywav is a powerful central nervous system medication that can already affect brain activity, so the worry is that stacking the two could nudge your seizure risk up a bit.
I'll be honest: this is based on theory and scattered anecdotal reports, not strong human studies, so it isn't a guaranteed problem. Still, because Xywav is such a potent medicine, I'd play it safe and steer clear of Thuja supplements. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.
