Here's the gist for Cibinqo (abrocitinib). Your body relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to clear this medicine. Berberine, the main active compound in tree turmeric, may slow that enzyme down. If it does, abrocitinib could clear more slowly and build up in your system, which can mean a stronger effect than intended.

For abrocitinib, more drug in the body can mean more immune suppression and a higher chance of side effects like infections, nausea, headache, or acne flares. That said, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on limited, lower-quality evidence, so I wouldn't panic. Before adding tree turmeric, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you're doing.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might have additive effects when used with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs and increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro and animal research suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit platelet aggregation.

Here's the connection worth knowing. Berberine, the active part of tree turmeric, may make platelets (the cells that help your blood clot) a little less sticky. Abrocitinib can already raise bleeding risk on its own, since it can lower platelet counts, especially in the first weeks of treatment. Stacking berberine on top could in theory add to that, leading to easier bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that's slow to stop.

I want to keep this in perspective. This concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from people, so it's theoretical and far from certain. Still, because Abrocitinib affects platelets too, it's smart to mention any tree turmeric or berberine supplement to your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

About Abrocitinib

What Is Abrocitinib Used For?

Brand name: Cibinqo

Cibinqo (abrocitinib) is used to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is specifically for people whose eczema has not been adequately controlled with other systemic (whole-body) treatments, including biologics, or when those treatments are not a safe option.

Cibinqo is not recommended to be used at the same time as other JAK inhibitors, biologic immunomodulators, or other immunosuppressants (medicines that reduce immune system activity).
