Armodafinil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the gist with armodafinil (Nuvigil): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear it out. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. So in theory, less armodafinil gets broken down, and a little more can linger in your system.

What might that feel like? Possibly a stronger or longer push from the medication, with side effects like headache, jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling anxious. This is mostly based on lab work and early human data, so it's not a sure thing, and food-level amounts of turmeric spice are unlikely to matter. Still, before you pair a concentrated berberine supplement with armodafinil, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Armodafinil Used For?

Brand name: Nuvigil

Armodafinil tablets (including the brand Nuvigil) are used to improve wakefulness in adults who have excessive sleepiness linked to one of three conditions: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), narcolepsy, or shift work disorder (SWD).

In obstructive sleep apnea, armodafinil treats the sleepiness itself — not the underlying airway obstruction. If CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep) is the right treatment for you, your doctor should try that first before adding armodafinil for sleepiness.
