Cariprazine Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down cariprazine (Vraylar). Berberine, the active compound in tree turmeric, can moderately slow that enzyme down. When clearance slows, cariprazine can build up a bit higher than usual, which may nudge up its effects and side effects. With this drug, that could mean more drowsiness, restlessness or an urge to keep moving (akathisia), dizziness, or trembling.

It's worth noting cariprazine is unusual because it has long-acting active byproducts that already linger in the body for weeks, so changes can be slow to show up. The science here is partly theoretical, but reasonable enough to take seriously. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Just run it by your pharmacist or prescriber first.

What Is Cariprazine Used For?

Brand name: Vraylar

Vraylar (cariprazine) is approved to treat schizophrenia in adults and teens 13 and older, and to treat acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder in adults and children 10 and older. In adults, it is also approved for depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression).

Additionally, Vraylar is approved as an add-on therapy alongside antidepressants for adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) who need extra help beyond their current antidepressant alone.
