Tree Turmeric + Doxepin
Doxepin brand names: Sinequan, Doxepin, Zonalon.
Doxepin falls into 2 drug categories that Tree Turmeric can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, use of tree turmeric along with CNS depressants might increase the risk of additive therapeutic and adverse effects.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Tree Turmeric interacts with whole categories of medication. Doxepin falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Tree Turmeric in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 2Why this applies to Doxepin
Doxepin falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have sedative effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: doxepin already makes you drowsy (that's exactly why a low dose is used for sleep), and tree turmeric (from its berberine) may have its own mild calming effect. Put them together and you could feel extra sleepy. Think more next-morning grogginess, dizziness, or feeling foggy or unsteady when you first get up.
I want to be honest about how strong this evidence is, though. This is mostly a theoretical concern based on animal studies, not solid human data, so it may turn out to be minor. Still, since both can add up, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you're older or already notice morning drowsiness. Don't stop either one on your own.

CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Doxepin also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break down and clear doxepin. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down. When that happens, doxepin can't be cleared as quickly, so more of it may build up in your system than expected. Doxepin is an active drug (not a prodrug), so blocking its breakdown tends to strengthen its effects and side effects.
For you, that could mean extra next-morning grogginess, dry mouth, constipation, or feeling dizzy. The evidence here is fairly weak and partly theoretical, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially since concentrated berberine supplements act differently than a pinch in cooking.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Doxepin page
“Doxepin is a sedating tricyclic prescribed for depression, anxiety, and often sleep itself, and the people taking it tend to shop the same shelf where the trouble sits. Of the 186 supplements on file, 78 deepen its drowsiness, with alcohol (beer and wine carry major, well-documented ratings) and kava the clearest examples, and I would…”
