Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the gist for galantamine (Razadyne): your body partly clears this medication using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. The berberine in tree turmeric can slow that enzyme down. When the enzyme works slower, galantamine can build up a bit more than usual, which may nudge its effects and side effects upward.

For galantamine, that could mean more nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, a slower heartbeat, or loss of appetite. To be fair, this is mostly theoretical, backed by lab work and only limited human data, so it may not amount to much for everyone. Still, since concentrated berberine supplements are much stronger than a pinch in food, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the gist for galantamine (Razadyne, Reminyl). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medicine from your body. The berberine in tree turmeric can mildly slow that enzyme down, so galantamine may break down a little slower and build up a bit higher than usual.

Galantamine isn't a prodrug, so more of it in your system simply means stronger effects. That can show up as more nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, loss of appetite, or a slower heartbeat. The concern here is mostly theoretical for galantamine specifically, but berberine's effect on this enzyme is real. Food amounts of turmeric spice aren't the issue; concentrated berberine supplements are. Before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Galantamine — available as extended-release capsules, tablets, and an oral solution — is used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. All supported formulations share this indication.

It does not cure or slow the underlying disease, but it can help support cognitive function in people with early to moderate-stage Alzheimer's. Its benefits may lessen as the disease progresses and more brain cells are lost.
