Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Your Lopressor HCT combines two blood pressure lowering medicines: metoprolol (a beta blocker that slows your heart) and hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill). Tree turmeric, thanks to its berberine, may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Stacking it on top of your medication could nudge your pressure down a little too far, so the main thing to watch for is lightheadedness, dizziness when you stand up, tiredness, or a slow heartbeat.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: it's mostly animal studies plus a little human research with a different drug, so this is more of a theoretical concern than a proven problem. Still, if you'd like to try tree turmeric, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings at home.

In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.

Your combo pill pairs a water pill (hydrochlorothiazide) with metoprolol, a beta-blocker. The part that matters here is the metoprolol. Your liver clears it using an enzyme called CYP2D6, and berberine (the active piece of tree turmeric) appears to slow that enzyme down. If metoprolol clears more slowly, its levels can creep up, which may make its effects stronger than expected. Think a heart rate that runs low, lightheadedness, more tiredness, or cold hands and feet.

To be fair, this is mostly lab-based with only weak human evidence, so it's a maybe, not a sure thing. Still, before you add a concentrated berberine supplement, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
