Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Here's the simple version: tree turmeric (and its active ingredient berberine) may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Since valsartan already works to relax your blood vessels and bring your numbers down, stacking the two could push your blood pressure a little lower than expected.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired, especially when standing up quickly. I want to be honest about the evidence though: this concern comes mainly from animal studies and a small amount of human data, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. It isn't dangerous for most people, but if you'd like to try tree turmeric, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your blood pressure at home.

Here's the gist for valsartan (Diovan): tree turmeric's main ingredient, berberine, appears to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Since valsartan is partly handled by that same enzyme, taking them together could let a bit more valsartan linger in your system. Valsartan is an active drug (not a prodrug), so more of it generally means a stronger blood-pressure-lowering effect.

In real life, that might show up as dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired. The evidence here is mostly theoretical and based on limited studies, so it may not happen at all. Still, if you'd like to try tree turmeric, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings rather than changing anything on your own.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
