Why this applies to Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Turmeric interacts with.

Turmeric may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. However, research is conflicting.
Curcumin, a constituent of turmeric, has demonstrated antiplatelet effects in vitro. Furthermore, two case reports have found that taking turmeric along with warfarin or fluindione was associated with an increased international normalized ratio (INR). However, one clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking curcumin 500 mg daily for 3 weeks, alone or with aspirin 100 mg, does not increase antiplatelet effects or bleeding risk. It is possible that the dose of turmeric used in this study was too low to produce a notable effect.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing: ibuprofen itself can already thin the blood a little and irritate the stomach lining. Turmeric, especially in concentrated supplement form, may have its own mild blood-thinning (antiplatelet) effect. Stack the two together and you could, in theory, nudge up your risk of bleeding or bruising, things like an upset or bleeding stomach, nosebleeds, or bruises that show up more easily.

I'll be honest, the evidence here is mixed. A few case reports raised a flag, but a small study didn't find a real increase in bleeding. The amount of turmeric you'd sprinkle on food is very unlikely to matter. If you're using a daily curcumin supplement plus regular ibuprofen, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, and watch for any unusual bleeding.

What Is Ibuprofen Used For?

Brand names: Motrin, Children's Motrin, Advil, Children's Advil, Fenbid Forte Gel, Ibugel Forte, Arthrofen, Ebufac, Rimafen, Calprofen, Fenpaed, Galprofen, Nurofen for Children, Orbifen for Children, Brufen, Brufen Retard, Fenbid, Tab-Profen, Ibuprofen, Calodor

Oral ibuprofen products (tablets, coated tablets, and liquid-filled capsules) are used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains from headache, backache, toothache, muscular aches, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever. The oral prescription tablet (Ibu) is also indicated for the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, mild to moderate pain, and primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods).

Caldolor, an intravenous (IV) form, is approved for adults and children 3 months and older to manage mild to moderate pain, to manage moderate to severe pain alongside opioid pain medicines, and to reduce fever. A separate intravenous solution, Ibuprofen Lysine, is used specifically in premature infants to close a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) — an abnormal blood vessel connection near the heart — when standard medical management has not worked.
