Fidaxomicin falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, turmeric might increase the absorption of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro and animal research shows that curcuminoids and other constituents found in turmeric can inhibit P-glycoprotein expression and activity.

Here's the gist for fidaxomicin (Dificid). Your body uses a kind of cellular pump called P-glycoprotein to move certain drugs around, and lab and animal studies suggest the curcumin in turmeric can slow that pump down. In theory, that could let a bit more fidaxomicin get absorbed than usual. The good news is that fidaxomicin is designed to stay mostly in the gut to kill C. difficile, and very little gets into the bloodstream anyway, so a small bump is unlikely to cause real trouble.

Keep in mind this is theoretical and based only on test-tube and animal work, not people. Everyday cooking amounts of turmeric are very unlikely to matter. If you're taking concentrated turmeric capsules during your treatment, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

About Fidaxomicin

What Is Fidaxomicin Used For?

Brand name: Dificid

Fidaxomicin treats C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) — a bacterial infection in the gut caused by Clostridioides difficile that leads to significant diarrhea and intestinal inflammation. Fidaxomicin tablets are approved for adult patients. Dificid (as tablets or oral suspension) is approved for both adults and children 6 months of age and older.

Because fidaxomicin works almost entirely inside the gut and is barely absorbed into the bloodstream, it is only effective against C. difficile and should not be used for any other type of infection.
