Pomalidomide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Wheatgrass interacts with.

Theoretically, wheatgrass might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that wheatgrass induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Here's the situation with wheatgrass and pomalidomide (Pomalyst). Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break pomalidomide down. Lab studies hint that wheatgrass may speed up that enzyme, which could clear the drug from your system a little faster and slightly weaken how well it fights your cancer. Pomalidomide is not a prodrug, so faster clearance means less effect, not more.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, not from people, so it may not matter much in real life. Still, because pomalidomide treats serious cancer, I wouldn't add wheatgrass without checking first. Please run it by your oncology pharmacist or doctor.

Wheatgrass is the young grass of the wheat plant, taken as a juice or powder, and is mainly used as a concentrated source of vitamins and plant nutrients. About Pomalidomide

What Is Pomalidomide Used For?

Brand name: Pomalyst

Pomalidomide capsules are used in adults with multiple myeloma (a blood cancer affecting plasma cells) who have already tried at least two prior treatments — including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor — and whose disease has continued to progress. It is given in combination with dexamethasone for this use.

Pomalidomide capsules are also used to treat Kaposi sarcoma (KS) — a cancer that can cause lesions on the skin and in internal organs — both in adults with AIDS-related KS after antiretroviral therapy has stopped working, and in adults with KS who are HIV-negative. The KS indication was approved based on response rate; ongoing studies are confirming long-term benefit.
