Pomalidomide falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Umckaloabo interacts with.

Theoretically, Pelargonium sidoides might decrease the effectiveness of immunosuppressant therapy.
In vitro research suggests that Pelargonium sidoides has immunostimulant effects.

Here's the thinking with this pairing. Umckaloabo (the South African geranium root) seems to gently nudge the immune system to be more active, at least in lab dishes. Pomalidomide works in a more complex way, but it's often grouped with immune-modulating drugs that help dial down or reprogram immune activity to fight myeloma. So in theory, a supplement that revs the immune system could tug against what your cancer treatment is trying to do, possibly making it a touch less effective.

I want to be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on lab work, not real-world cases. But since pomalidomide is a serious cancer therapy, I wouldn't take chances. Please run it by your oncology team or pharmacist before adding Umckaloabo.

Umckaloabo is a root extract from a South African geranium that is most studied for short-term relief of acute bronchitis and other respiratory infections. Some clinical research suggests it may help symptoms resolve a bit faster, but the quality of evidence is mixed and it is not a cure. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a chronic illness.

About Pomalidomide

What Is Pomalidomide Used For?

Brand name: Pomalyst

Pomalidomide capsules are used in adults with multiple myeloma (a blood cancer affecting plasma cells) who have already tried at least two prior treatments — including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor — and whose disease has continued to progress. It is given in combination with dexamethasone for this use.

Pomalidomide capsules are also used to treat Kaposi sarcoma (KS) — a cancer that can cause lesions on the skin and in internal organs — both in adults with AIDS-related KS after antiretroviral therapy has stopped working, and in adults with KS who are HIV-negative. The KS indication was approved based on response rate; ongoing studies are confirming long-term benefit.
