dabigatran falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Umckaloabo interacts with.

Theoretically, Pelargonium sidoides might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs.
Pelargonium sidoides contains coumarin, which may reduce platelet aggregation. However, in animal models, Pelargonium sidoides extract does not appear to inhibit coagulation or interact with warfarin. This interaction has not been documented in humans.

Here's the short version on taking Umckaloabo (Pelargonium sidoides) alongside dabigatran (Pradaxa). Dabigatran is already a strong blood thinner, working directly to block clot formation. The concern on file is purely theoretical: this geranium root contains small amounts of coumarin compounds that might slightly reduce how well platelets clump together. Stacking that on top of a blood thinner could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk a bit higher.

I want to be honest, though, this has not been shown in people, and animal studies didn't find any real blood-thinning effect. So the evidence here is weak. Still, since dabigatran can cause bruising, nosebleeds, or more serious bleeding, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and watch for any unusual bleeding.

Umckaloabo is a root extract from a South African geranium that is most studied for short-term relief of acute bronchitis and other respiratory infections. Some clinical research suggests it may help symptoms resolve a bit faster, but the quality of evidence is mixed and it is not a cure. About Dabigatran

What Is Dabigatran Used For?

Brand names: Pradaxa, Pradax

Dabigatran etexilate capsules are approved for adults to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism (blood clots traveling through the body) in non-valvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm not caused by a heart valve problem). Capsules are also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT — a blood clot in a deep vein, usually the leg) and pulmonary embolism (PE — a clot in the lungs), to prevent those clots from coming back, and to prevent DVT and PE in adults who have had hip replacement surgery.

For children, the capsule form is approved for treating VTE (venous thromboembolism — blood clots in veins) and reducing recurrence in patients aged 8 to under 18. Pradaxa Oral Pellets are approved specifically for children aged 3 months to under 12 years for the same treatment and recurrence-prevention purposes.
