Wild Lettuce and Acetaminophen, Phenylephrine, Chlorpheniramine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS

Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Phenylephrine, Chlorpheniramine

Acetaminophen, Phenylephrine, Chlorpheniramine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Wild Lettuce interacts with.

Studies report varying evidence on whether or not wild lettuce contains hyoscyamine, an anticholinergic drug. If it does, it appears to be in very low amounts. Nevertheless, there have been case reports of individuals consuming large amounts of wild lettuce experiencing anticholinergic-related side effects, such as constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, and sweating. Therefore, if you are already taking a drug with anticholinergic effects, you should be cautious about combining it with wild lettuce as the risk of side effects may be increased.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the piece to keep an eye on with this combo product: the chlorpheniramine in it is a sedating antihistamine that already has anticholinergic effects, meaning it can dry you out and slow things down. Wild lettuce may add a little of that same drying activity, though the evidence here is shaky. Some lab work questions whether it even contains meaningful anticholinergic compounds, and the worry mostly comes from case reports in people who took large amounts.

Practically speaking, stacking them could nudge up side effects like dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty urinating. Wild lettuce can also add to the sleepiness chlorpheniramine causes. Casual use probably won't cause trouble, but it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before pairing them, especially in older adults.
