Calcium
Calcium is a vital nutrient found in various foods such as dairy products, certain vegetables, and many fortified items. Over 99% of the body's calcium is stored in the bones and teeth, predominantly as hydroxyapatite. The remaining calcium circulates in the blood, extracellular fluid, muscles, and other tissues, where it is essential for processes like nerve signaling, muscle contraction, vascular activities, glandular secretion, and maintaining cell membrane and capillary permeability. It also plays critical roles in enzyme reactions, respiration, kidney function, and blood clotting, and is involved in neurotransmitter and hormone release, amino acid uptake, vitamin B12 absorption, and gastrin secretion. Calcium balance changes with age: it is positive during periods of growth, stable in adulthood, and tends to become negative in older age. Calcium loss occurs through feces, urine, sweat, and shedding skin cells. In women, reduced estrogen levels decrease calcium absorption and retention, increase bone turnover, and lead to lower bone mass. Calcium supplements come in various forms, including citrate and carbonate, which differ mainly in their calcium content and absorption rates. Calcium citrate is easily absorbed and can be taken without food, making it suitable for older adults or those with low stomach acid. In contrast, calcium carbonate, which contains a higher percentage of calcium, is best absorbed when taken with meals.

General Statements |
- How Cal-Ma Plus Keeps You Healthy
Builds strong bones and teeth
Calcium is essential to maintain the proper density of bones and teeth so they can withstand daily wear and tear. Almost 90 percent of the body's calcium resides in the bones and teeth. Sixty percent of the body's magnesium is also found in the bones. Cal-Ma Plus helps maintain bone stability by assisting the ongoing activities of bone formation and resorption.
- Maintains cardiovascular function
In order for the heart muscle to operate properly, the tissue fluid around the muscle must contain appropriate amounts of calcium. Magnesium also plays an important role in heart health by its ability to support the heart muscle in the relaxation phase. Magnesium salts have been used for more that 50 years to help maintain a regular heartbeat. Ingredients in Cal-Ma Plus help maintain adequate levels and regulation of these important minerals.
- Maintains cellular efficiency
Together calcium and magnesium maintain normal cell growth and replication. Calcium plays an important role in maintaining healthy blood. Calcium also works with phosphorus at the cellular level, reacting with proteins, fats and carbohydrates to supply energy and materials for growth and repair. Calcium and magnesium work in tandem to promote normal nerve function.
- Introduced in 1958
- Sold through health care professionals.
- Healthy parathyroid function is required for proper regulation of calcium metabolism. Cal-Ma Plus also helps calcium and magnesium join forces at the cellular level to maintain normal cell growth and replication. These two minerals are important in the proper functioning of the nervous, neuromuscular, skeletal, and cardiovascular systems.
