What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Florastor against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Florastor contains 2 active ingredients: Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM 1-745, a live yeast probiotic, and lactose. The probiotic is the main player here—it's meant to restore helpful microbes in your gut.
The product also includes magnesium stearate and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose as inactive ingredients (binders and capsule material).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Saccharomyces boulardii in Florastor is rated possibly effective for several types of diarrhea: rotaviral diarrhea, travelers' diarrhea, and diarrhea caused by antibiotics. It's also rated possibly effective for necrotizing enterocolitis (a serious intestinal condition in newborns), Clostridioides difficile infection, and Helicobacter pylori.
These are based on available evidence, though for most of these uses the data isn't yet definitive.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saccharomyces boulardii is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but it should be avoided if you're critically ill or have a weakened immune system—there's a rare risk of the yeast itself entering the bloodstream in those situations, especially if you have a central venous catheter or are on broad-spectrum antibiotics. A small number of people have reported mild gastrointestinal side effects like stomach cramps, gas, nausea, or loss of appetite.
There isn't enough reliable safety data for pregnancy and lactation, so talk with your doctor before using it if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Florastor if you're on antifungal medications (like fluconazole, terbinafine, or others)—they can reduce the effectiveness of the probiotic by killing the beneficial yeast. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Florastor is a probiotic option if you're dealing with diarrhea from antibiotics, travel, or certain infections and you're otherwise healthy with a working immune system. Steer clear if you're critically ill or immunocompromised.
If you take antifungal medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist about timing. And if you're pregnant, nursing, or have any other health concerns, confirm it's right for you first.
