Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: glucomannan, a soluble fiber extracted from the konjac root. It works by absorbing water and forming a thick, gel-like substance in your digestive tract, which is why it's used to promote bowel regularity and help manage blood sugar and cholesterol.

The capsule also holds inactive ingredients (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, stearic acid, and silicon dioxide) that serve as fillers and binders.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Weight loss, appetite control, and digestive health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Constipation, Obesity, Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia, Appetite suppression, Satiety — and 1 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Glucomannan is rated "Possibly Effective" for Constipation (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Glucomannan is rated "Possibly Effective" for Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia.
  • Also on file: Glucomannan is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Obesity.

Glucomannan is possibly effective for constipation, possibly effective for diabetes support, and possibly effective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). The evidence for high blood pressure is insufficient — we don't have reliable data to rate it for that use. "Possibly effective" means some clinical evidence supports its use, but more research would strengthen the case.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Glucomannan is generally well tolerated when you take it with plenty of water. The most common side effects are abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting — especially at doses above 3 grams daily.

A rare but serious risk is choking or blockage in your esophagus or digestive tract, which happens mainly when the dry powder or tablets are swallowed without enough liquid. Always take this with a full glass of water.

There isn't enough safety data to say whether it's safe during pregnancy, so talk it over with your doctor before using it while pregnant. Little is known about safety while breastfeeding; caution is advised, and you should discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist.

Oral medications may be absorbed less effectively when taken with glucomannan. The most important ones to check are diabetes drugs, blood thinners (anticoagulants), heart medications, and birth control — discuss timing and whether you should take this supplement at all with your own doctor or pharmacist before you start.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Glucomannan may help with constipation, blood sugar, and cholesterol if the evidence supports your reason for using it. If you take any oral medications — especially for heart rhythm, blood clotting, diabetes, or birth control — you need to separate the doses by a few hours and check your exact drugs before starting.

Always take this supplement with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk with your own doctor or pharmacist about whether it fits your health plan.

Oral Drugs

Theoretically, glucomannan may decrease absorption of drugs taken orally.
Due to its viscosity and bulking effects, there is concern that glucomannan can decrease the absorption of oral drugs. A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking glyburide 2.5 mg plus glucomannan 3.9 grams with breakfast reduces plasma levels of glyburide when compared with breakfast and glyburide alone. In addition, animal research demonstrates this effect on amoxicillin, but shows increased absorption of metronidazole. This mouse model also demonstrates that metronidazole elimination is prolonged, but amoxicillin elimination is enhanced by 38%; glucomannan may also affect the distribution of some drugs. To avoid changes in absorption, take glucomannan 30-60 minutes after taking oral drugs.

Glucomannan 600 mg by BIOVEA: Common Questions

Does Glucomannan 600 mg by BIOVEA interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Glucomannan 600 mg has a known interaction with 2,022 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Glucomannan 600 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Do I really need to take this with that much water?
Yes. Glucomannan absorbs water and expands in your digestive tract — that's how it works — but if you don't drink enough water with it, it can swell in your throat or gut and cause choking or blockage. Always take it with a full glass of water, no exceptions.
Can I take this at the same time as my other medications?
Not for most drugs. Glucomannan may lower how well your body absorbs oral medications. Wait at least 1–2 hours between taking this and any prescription drugs, then check your exact medications with the tool on this page and confirm the timing with your doctor or pharmacist.
Will it help me lose weight?
Glucomannan isn't rated in our data for weight loss. It can help with constipation and may support blood sugar and cholesterol, but its weight-loss effects aren't established here — that's a question for your doctor.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant?
There isn't enough safety data to say it's safe during pregnancy. Talk it over with your doctor before you use it while pregnant — they can advise based on your health.
What if I experience bloating and gas?
Bloating, gas, and abdominal discomfort are common side effects, especially if you take more than 3 grams daily. Start with a lower dose, drink plenty of water, and give your body time to adjust. If symptoms don't improve or get worse, stop and talk with your pharmacist.
Is this safe while breastfeeding?
There's little safety data available for breastfeeding. Caution is advised — discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist to decide whether it's right for you.
