Yeast Buster Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by BIOVEA
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Yeast Buster against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Yeast Buster by BIOVEA
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Yeast Buster contains eight active ingredients in a proprietary blend (a combination whose exact amounts are not disclosed). The main components are Oregon grape, organic fennel, pau d'arco, oregano oil, organic gentian, usnea, fresh black walnut, and fresh organic spilanthes — a mix of herbal extracts traditionally used to support immune and digestive health.
The product also contains grain alcohol and deionized water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for Yeast Buster's ingredients is mostly uncertain. Oregon grape is possibly effective for psoriasis, but evidence for its use in eczema, acid reflux, and peptic ulcers is insufficient to rate.
Fennel is possibly effective for period pain (dysmenorrhea), with insufficient evidence for bronchitis, anxiety, bedwetting, and cholera. Pau d'arco, oregano oil, gentian, usnea, and black walnut all lack reliable evidence for the conditions the facts list — including cancer, wound healing, cough, and heart disease.
The data we hold doesn't establish effectiveness for what this product is marketed as (yeast-related concerns).
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Topical use of Oregon grape is generally well tolerated, but oral use is less well studied and should be approached carefully. Oregon grape is likely unsafe in pregnancy and likely unsafe while breastfeeding due to berberine content.
Fennel is possibly unsafe in pregnancy and possibly unsafe while breastfeeding in medicinal doses; food amounts are likely fine. Pau d'arco, oregano oil, and gentian should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to limited safety data.
Usnea and black walnut also lack enough safety information for pregnancy and breastfeeding. Orally, fennel may cause gastrointestinal upset, photosensitivity, and allergic reactions; seizures have been reported rarely.
Oregano is well tolerated in food amounts but can rarely cause severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis. Gentian may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and bloating.
Usnea's main ingredient, usnic acid, has been linked to liver damage when taken orally. Black walnut's leaf, bark, and hull can cause gastrointestinal upset and skin irritation due to tannin content.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check these medication types before taking Yeast Buster: blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel) — Moderate risk across Oregon grape, fennel, pau d'arco, and oregano; blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs including beta-blockers and ACE inhibitors) — Moderate risk from Oregon grape and gentian; diabetes medications — Moderate risk from Oregon grape and oregano; birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy — Moderate risk from fennel; drugs metabolized by liver enzymes CYP3A4, CYP2D6, and CYP2C9 (including some statins, antiarrhythmics, and antidepressants) — Moderate risk from Oregon grape and fennel; cyclosporine (an immunosuppressant) — Moderate risk from Oregon grape; ciprofloxacin (Cipro) — Moderate risk from fennel; and tamoxifen — Moderate risk from fennel. We could not check interactions for usnea and spilanthes.
The bottom line

Yeast Buster by BIOVEA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Yeast Buster by BIOVEA is a liquid supplement with multiple herbs that do interact with medications.
The most serious documented interaction involves Oregon grape and blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs) — a Moderate severity risk. Oregon grape's berberine content can reduce platelet clumping, which may increase bleeding risk if you're already on warfarin, aspirin, or similar medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Oregon grape also affects how your liver metabolizes several drug classes: medications broken down by CYP3A4, CYP2D6, and CYP2C9 enzymes may build up to higher levels in your bloodstream, potentially raising side effects. It can also increase the sedative effects of sleep aids and anti-anxiety drugs, lower blood pressure further if you're on blood pressure medications, raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with diabetes drugs, and may reduce the effectiveness of cyclosporine (an immunosuppressant).
Fennel in this product interacts with birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy — it has estrogenic activity that may reduce their effectiveness. It also poses a Moderate bleeding risk with blood thinners, may raise levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4, and can reduce how well ciprofloxacin (Cipro, an antibiotic) works.
Additionally, large amounts may interfere with tamoxifen's cancer-fighting effects. Pau d'arco and oregano oil each add a Moderate bleeding risk with anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs, and oregano may increase hypoglycemia risk with diabetes medications.
Gentian may lower blood pressure further when combined with antihypertensive drugs.
Usnea was not adequately checked for interactions with medications. We hold no data for Spilanthes.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,211 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact drugs before starting.

Oregon Grape
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can lower blood glucose levels.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can have hypotensive effects. Also, an analysis of clinical evidence suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can have sedative effects.
Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune)
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the effects and adverse effects of cyclosporine.
Berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can reduce metabolism of cyclosporine and increase serum levels. It might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), which metabolizes cyclosporine.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can inhibit cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9).
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6).
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, moderately inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4).
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs that are P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrates.
In vitro research suggests that Oregon grape extracts inhibit P-gp efflux.
organic Fennel
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, fennel might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
Animal research suggests that fennel oil has antithrombotic and antiplatelet effects.
Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
Theoretically, fennel might decrease the levels and clinical effects of ciprofloxacin.
Animal research shows that fennel reduces ciprofloxacin bioavailability by nearly 50%, possibly due to the metal cations such as calcium, iron, and magnesium contained in fennel. This study also found that fennel increased tissue distribution and slowed elimination of ciprofloxacin.
Contraceptive Drugs
Theoretically, taking large amounts of fennel might decrease the effects of contraceptive drugs due to competition for estrogen receptors.
Some constituents of fennel have estrogenic activity.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, fennel might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research suggests that fennel inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Estrogens
Theoretically, taking large amounts of fennel might interfere with hormone replacement therapy due to competition for estrogen receptors.
Some constituents of fennel have estrogenic activity.
Tamoxifen (Nolvadex)
Theoretically, taking large amounts of fennel might decrease the antiestrogenic effect of tamoxifen.
Some constituents of fennel have estrogenic activity, which may interfere with the antiestrogenic activity of tamoxifen.
Oregano Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, oregano might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that aristolochic acid isolated from oregano leaves has antithrombin activity. It has also been reported that oregano oil inhibits arachidonic acid-induced, and ADP-induced, platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, oregano might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
In vitro and animal research shows that oregano extracts might lower blood glucose levels.
organic Gentian
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking gentian with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
In vitro research shows that gentian can cause vasodilation and lower blood pressure.
Pau d'Arco
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, pau d'arco might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that pau d'arco reduces platelet aggregation and may interfere with vitamin K. One clinical study shows that taking the lapachol constituent of pau d'arco in doses above 1.5 grams daily increases the risk of bleeding. The effects of whole pau d'arco or pau d'arco extract in humans are unclear.
