Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Glycine 600 contains one active ingredient: glycine, a simple amino acid your body makes naturally. Each capsule delivers 600 mg.

The capsule itself is gelatin — an inactive ingredient used to hold and deliver the glycine.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Glycine's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: supports healthy glucose metabolism and collagen.
  • We looked for evidence on: Metabolic syndrome, Obesity, Cognitive function, Wound healing, blood sugar balance, connective tissue health.
  • The closest evidence on file: Glycine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cognitive function (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Glycine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Obesity, Wound healing, Metabolic syndrome.

The evidence for glycine is mixed. For schizophrenia, the data rate it as possibly effective.

For 3-phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (3-PGDH) deficiency, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and cystic fibrosis, there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate how well it works — more research is needed.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Glycine is generally well tolerated at typical doses, but long-term safety data are limited. Mild sedation has been reported rarely and goes away quickly when you stop taking it.

Some people have experienced soft stools, nausea, vomiting, or mild upper stomach discomfort — these also resolve fast if you discontinue the supplement. Irritability, insomnia, fatigue, memory impairment, headache, and dry mouth have been reported, though it's unclear whether glycine caused them.

There isn't enough reliable safety data during pregnancy and lactation. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this supplement — they can help you decide whether it's right for you.

If you take clozapine (Clozaril) for schizophrenia, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product — glycine may decrease clozapine's effectiveness and worsen symptoms. No other medication interactions are documented in our data for glycine, but that's not a guarantee none exist.

Protein's fundamental building block Supports healthy glucose metabolism Collagen and glutathione precursor

All-solar manufacturing

Glycine has become a popular supplement because of its role in, among other things, supporting healthy blood sugar balance and glucose metabolism. Glycine is the principal amino acid in the body's predominant protein, collagen, and therefore, plays a critical structural role in the creation of healthy skin, bones, joints, blood vessels and connective tissue (tendons, ligaments and cartilage). Glycine is also one of the three required building blocks of glutathione, which is our body's most powerful, internally produced, protective molecule. Glycine also acts as an important neurotransmitter, while also serving as a signaling molecule in the immune system. In short, despite Glycine's small size and simple structure, it plays a multitude of critical roles promoting the health of the most important systems in our body.

Contains no milk, soy, yeast, corn, wheat, gluten, sodium, salt, sugar, fat, cholesterol, color, preservative, common allergens or manufacturing additives. Contains no additives of any kind.
