GUT Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking GUT against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of GUT by Core Nutritionals Lifeline
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Core Nutritionals Lifeline GUT contains 23 ingredients: three digestive enzymes (lactase, lipase, and protease) and multiple probiotic bacteria, including species of Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Saccharomyces boulardii. The enzymes help break down fats, carbohydrates, and proteins, while the probiotics are live microorganisms meant to support your gut health.
The product also contains inactive ingredients—rice flour, cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide—which are fillers and binders in the capsule.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The data support lactase as effective for lactose intolerance. Several probiotic strains show possibly effective evidence: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Saccharomyces boulardii are possibly effective for IBS and antibiotic-associated diarrhea; Lactobacillus acidophilus and Saccharomyces boulardii are possibly effective for Helicobacter pylori infection; and Saccharomyces boulardii is possibly effective for travelers' diarrhea and Clostridioides difficile infection.
For the digestive enzymes (lipase and protease) and many of the other probiotics, the evidence is insufficient to establish how well they work for the conditions they're marketed for.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactase, lipase, and the probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults. Rare allergic reactions to lactase have been reported.
Protease, lactase, and lipase all carry caution flags for pregnancy—there isn't enough data to know they're safe, so you'd want to check with your doctor first. For breastfeeding, lipase and protease lack safety data and should only be used with medical advice; lactase is likely safe.
Probiotics can occasionally cause bloating, flatulence, or mild stomach discomfort. Rare but serious infections (bacteremia or sepsis) have been reported with several Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains and with Saccharomyces boulardii, mostly in critically ill or immunocompromised people; these cases are uncommon.
If you have a weakened immune system or are seriously ill, talk to your doctor before starting this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotics or antifungals, separate them from this product by at least a few hours—taking them together defeats the point of the probiotics. Antibiotics can kill the beneficial bacteria (Moderate severity), and antifungals can kill the Saccharomyces yeast (Minor severity).
No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a multi-strain probiotic and digestive enzyme blend that works best for lactose intolerance and possibly for IBS or antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The biggest concern is taking it at the same time as antibiotics or antifungals, which will render the probiotics ineffective—space them apart.
If you take any of these medications or have a weakened immune system, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

GUT by Core Nutritionals Lifeline Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Core Nutritionals Lifeline GUT interacts with medications through several of its probiotic bacteria and one enzyme.
The most serious interaction is Moderate in severity: multiple probiotic strains (Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, and Lactobacillus gasseri) can lose effectiveness when taken at the same time as antibiotics, since the antibiotics may kill the live organisms in the supplement. Altogether, these interactions span 222 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Additionally, Saccharomyces boulardii—a beneficial yeast in the product—can be inactivated by antifungal drugs (Minor severity). Since both probiotics and antifungals are meant to help you, taking them together defeats the purpose of the probiotic.
Lactase, lipase, and protease (the digestive enzymes) have no interactions documented in our data. We could not check several other probiotic strains (Bifidobacterium infantis, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus brevis, amylase, Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Lactobacillus fermentum extract)—we hold no monograph data for them.
