What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 8 ingredients total, including five probiotic bacterial strains we have data for: Lactiplantibacillus plantarum R1012, Lacticaseibacillus casei R0215, Bifidobacterium longum BB536, Lactobacillus helveticus R-52, and Bifidobacterium breve R-70. Three other bacterial strains—Lactococcus lactis R1058, Lactobacillus rhamnosus R-11, and Pediococcus acidilactici R1001—round out the blend.
Each delivers live, active organisms designed to support your gut flora. The inactive ingredients are potato starch, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, water, hypromellose, ethylcellulose, sodium alginate, medium chain triglyceride, oleic acid, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and ascorbic acid—these are the capsule materials, binders, and preservatives that keep the formula stable.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence is mixed. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum is possibly effective for atopic dermatitis (eczema), high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia), ulcerative colitis, and common cold.
For the other strains—Lacticaseibacillus casei, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus helveticus, and Bifidobacterium breve—the evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable data to rate their effectiveness for the conditions studied, such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea, anxiety, hay fever, and cognitive decline. That means the research so far hasn't been strong enough to say whether they work or not.
This is a multi-strain blend, so the overall effectiveness depends on which conditions you're targeting and which strains may help.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotic strains in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy people. The most common side effects—when they occur at all—are mild and temporary: gas, bloating, loose stools, stomach discomfort, or nausea.
One trial reported a single case of dizziness. The main safety caution is that these are live organisms.
In rare cases, especially in people with very weak immune systems, serious illness, or critical illness, the bacteria themselves have been associated with blood infections (bacteremia) and other serious complications. If you have a weakened immune system, are seriously ill, or have had recent surgery, talk to your doctor before starting this product.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety data are limited; Bifidobacterium longum and Bifidobacterium breve carry ratings of possibly safe, but the others have insufficient data. Check with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you're on antibiotic drugs, separate your probiotic dose from your antibiotic dose—usually by a few hours. All five strains we could check interact with antibiotics at Moderate severity by potentially losing effectiveness when taken simultaneously.
Ask your pharmacist for the best timing for your specific antibiotics.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Jarro-Dophilus EPS is a multi-strain probiotic best suited for generally healthy people. If you're taking antibiotics, you'll need to space out your doses so the antibiotic doesn't kill the live organisms.
People with weakened immune systems or serious illness should talk to their doctor first. Ask your pharmacist to check your exact medications before you start.

Jarro-Dophilus EPS 5 Billion CFU by Jarrow Formulas Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Jarro-Dophilus EPS by Jarrow Formulas is a multi-strain probiotic, and the main interaction concern is with antibiotic drugs.
All five of the strains we could check—Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Lacticaseibacillus casei, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus helveticus, and Bifidobacterium breve—share the same issue: antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the formula, reducing how well the probiotic works. This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The practical fix is straightforward: space out your doses. Don't take the probiotic and antibiotics at the same time.
Your pharmacist or doctor can tell you the best timing—usually a few hours apart works. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
We could not check three of the eight ingredients: Lactococcus lactis R1058, Lactobacillus rhamnosus R-11, and Pediococcus acidilactici R1001. It's possible they have their own interactions, but we have no data on file for them.
Use the medication checker below with your exact antibiotic to see if it's one of the ones documented, or ask your pharmacist to look it up for you.
