Krill Oil DX Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by NDX
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Krill Oil DX against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Krill Oil DX by NDX
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Krill Oil DX contains 7 ingredients, of which the active ones are omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (the product lists eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid as individual omega-3 components), phospholipids from krill, vitamin A, astaxanthin, and K-REAL krill oil. The inactive ingredients are gelatin, glycerin, water, and lemon oil, which serve as the capsule shell and flavorings.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed. Vitamin A is effective for vitamin A deficiency and possibly effective for aging skin, oral leukoplakia, measles, ulcerative colitis, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Krill oil is possibly effective for dry eye, but evidence is insufficient to rate it for aging skin, Alzheimer disease, cancer, high cholesterol, or cognitive function. Astaxanthin and omega-6 fatty acids lack sufficient evidence — the data we hold does not establish their effectiveness for the conditions studied.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin A is generally well tolerated at recommended doses but is toxic in high doses because it accumulates in the body. The safety data advises against high-dose vitamin A in pregnancy due to birth-defect risk; normal dietary and recommended supplement amounts are appropriate.
Krill oil is generally well tolerated at doses up to 4 grams daily and there isn't enough safety data to know either way about pregnancy or breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice. Astaxanthin is generally well tolerated in studies but has limited long-term safety data, and the safety data advises against it in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Common side effects from krill oil include bloating, decreased appetite, diarrhea, fishy burps, flatulence, heartburn, nausea, and stomach discomfort; astaxanthin may cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, and red-colored stools.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you take retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) — the Major interaction could cause toxic vitamin A buildup. Also double-check if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin, antidiabetes medications, hepatotoxic drugs, tetracycline antibiotics, or any drugs metabolized by liver enzymes CYP3A4 or CYP2B6.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is a fish-oil-derived supplement aimed at skin health and general wellness, but it carries real interactions with blood thinners, diabetes medications, and certain antibiotics — and vitamin A at high doses poses additional toxicity risks. If you take any prescription medications, especially retinoids, warfarin, antidiabetes drugs, or tetracyclines, run this product by your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Those with shellfish allergies should avoid it.

Krill Oil DX by NDX Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Krill Oil DX by NDX contains several ingredients with documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern comes through vitamin A, which can interact with retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) at a Major severity level — concomitant use may produce dangerously high vitamin A levels and additive toxic effects. Vitamin A also has Moderate interactions with blood thinners like warfarin, hepatotoxic drugs, and tetracycline antibiotics.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The krill oil itself and astaxanthin carry Moderate interactions. Krill oil may increase bleeding risk with anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs, and may lower blood sugar when combined with diabetes medications.
Astaxanthin may theoretically decrease levels of drugs metabolized by liver enzymes (CYP3A4 and CYP2B6 substrates), though this hasn't been confirmed in humans yet.
Omega-6 fatty acids in this product have no documented interactions. We could not check eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, or phospholipids — we don't hold data for those ingredients.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,052 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Krill Oil DX with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Astaxanthin
Cytochrome P450 2B6 (Cyp2B6) Substrates
Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2B6.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces cytochrome CYP2B6 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Vitamin A
Retinoids
Concomitant use of retinoids with vitamin A supplements might produce supratherapeutic vitamin A levels.
Retinoids, which are vitamin A derivatives, could have additive toxic effects when taken with vitamin A supplements.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, taking high doses of vitamin A in combination with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver disease.
The tolerable upper intake level (UL) is the highest level of intake that is likely to pose no risk of adverse effects. Doses of vitamin A above the UL can cause hepatotoxicity, ranging from elevated liver enzymes to liver failure.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, taking tetracycline antibiotics with high doses of vitamin A can increase the risk of pseudotumor cerebri.
Benign intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri) can occur with tetracyclines and with acute or chronic vitamin A toxicity. Case reports suggest that taking tetracyclines and vitamin A concurrently can increase the risk of this condition. Avoid high doses of vitamin A in people taking tetracyclines chronically.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, high doses of vitamin A could increase the risk of bleeding with warfarin.
Vitamin A toxicity is associated with hemorrhage and hypoprothrombinemia, possibly due to vitamin K antagonism. Advise patients taking warfarin to avoid doses of vitamin A above the tolerable upper intake level of 10,000 IU/day for adults.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, DHA may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Although some clinical evidence suggests that DHA might reduce collagen-stimulated platelet aggregation and thromboxane release, most clinical evidence suggests that DHA alone does not affect blood clotting. However, theoretically, when given in combination with EPA as fish oil, concomitant use with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs (including aspirin) might increase risk of bleeding.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking DHA with antidiabetes drugs might reduce the effects of these medications.
In people with type 2 diabetes, including those taking oral hypoglycemic medications, DHA seems to increase fasting blood glucose levels.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking DHA with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Fish oils containing DHA can lower blood pressure and might have additive effects in patients treated with antihypertensives; use with caution.
K-REAL krill oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, krill oil may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Taking high doses of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can modestly decrease platelet aggregation. Since krill oil also contains these fatty acids, taking high doses of krill oil might also inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, taking high doses of krill oil with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bleeding. However, the omega-3 content of krill oil is much lower than that of fish oil.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking krill oil with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research in animals and humans shows that krill oil might lower blood glucose levels. However, a small study shows that taking krill oil does not reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, most of whom were taking antidiabetes drugs.
