What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: pantethine 450 mg per softgel. Pantethine is a form of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) that your body uses in energy metabolism and the production of certain hormones and cholesterol.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—bovine gelatin, glycerin, water, and annatto—which are the shell, lubricant, and color.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Pantethine is rated possibly effective for hyperlipoproteinemia (high blood lipid levels). For athletic performance, pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN), and other forms of hyperlipidemia, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pantethine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal complaints: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, and stomach discomfort.
Mild itching has been reported rarely. Because long-term safety data are limited, it's best to avoid pantethine unless your doctor advises otherwise.
There is not enough reliable data on pantethine's safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding; talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs—such as warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, or similar medications—check with your own pharmacist or doctor before starting pantethine. These combinations may carry a Moderate risk of increased bleeding.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pantethine may help with high blood lipid levels, though evidence varies by condition. The main caution is if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs—the combination could increase bleeding risk.
If you're on any such medication, check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting. Long-term safety data are sparse, so use it only under medical guidance.
