HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Performance Amino-GH by Quantum Nutrition Labs
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Performance Amino-GH contains 4 active ingredients. Calcium is a mineral critical for bone health, muscle function, and nerve transmission.
The product also includes two amino acids—L-arginine and L-lysine—which play roles in protein synthesis, immune function, and tissue repair. L-ornithine alpha ketoglutarate is a compound derived from the amino acid ornithine.
These are mixed into a proprietary blend formula. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients: cellulose, water, marine coral, and jasmine rice bran.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Calcium in this product is effective for preventing and treating low calcium levels (hypocalcemia), osteoporosis, and related conditions like high potassium (hyperkalemia). It's also effective for heartburn (dyspepsia) and kidney failure.
L-lysine is possibly effective for cold sores (herpes labialis), though evidence is limited. For other uses in the product—such as child growth, pressure ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers—the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate L-lysine.
No effectiveness data are on file for L-arginine or L-ornithine alpha ketoglutarate in our records.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Calcium is generally well tolerated at recommended doses. The most common side effects are belching, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, and stomach upset.
Rare serious concerns include kidney stones and a condition called calciphylaxis. Some research has raised questions about very high calcium intake (over 1500–2000 mg daily) and prostate cancer risk, as well as a possible link to heart disease at high intakes, though findings are mixed.
Adequate calcium is important in pregnancy and breastfeeding; stay within recommended amounts and check with your doctor. L-arginine is often tolerated short-term but can lower blood pressure and should only be used under medical supervision, as safety for self-treatment isn't well established.
Common side effects include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, headache, and insomnia. L-lysine is generally well tolerated at typical doses but may cause stomach upset at high amounts; long-term safety isn't well studied.
Supplement use of L-lysine in pregnancy and breastfeeding hasn't been well studied—food sources are fine, but check with your doctor before taking a supplement. We hold no safety data for L-ornithine alpha ketoglutarate.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check if you're on HIV integrase inhibitors (dolutegravir, elvitegravir, raltegravir), thyroid hormone (levothyroxine), heart rhythm or blood pressure medications (sotalol, diltiazem, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, antihypertensives generally), blood thinners, diabetes medications, potassium-sparing diuretics, or sildenafil. Intravenous ceftriaxone users must avoid this product entirely due to a major interaction with calcium.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may be worth considering if you're looking to support bone health or manage low calcium—but only if you don't take HIV medications, antibiotics like ceftriaxone, or thyroid drugs. If you take blood pressure medications, blood thinners, diabetes drugs, or potassium-sparing diuretics, talk to your pharmacist before starting.
Run your exact medications through the checker below—the interaction list is long.

Performance Amino-GH by Quantum Nutrition Labs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Performance Amino-GH by Quantum Nutrition Labs contains ingredients with documented interactions affecting a significant number of medications.
The most serious concern is calcium's interaction with dolutegravir and elvitegravir, two HIV integrase inhibitors. Calcium can reduce blood levels of these drugs by up to 40%, potentially compromising their ability to control HIV.
Patients on either of these medications must take them 2–6 hours apart from this product.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Calcium also has major interactions with ceftriaxone (an antibiotic used for serious infections) — combining them intravenously can cause dangerous precipitation in the lungs and kidneys. Avoid this pairing entirely.
Additionally, calcium moderately reduces absorption of levothyroxine (thyroid hormone), sotalol (a heart rhythm medication), and raltegravir (another HIV drug), and may interfere with diltiazem and other blood pressure or heart medications.
L-arginine carries moderate-severity interactions with blood pressure medications (ACE inhibitors, ARBs, other antihypertensives), blood thinners, diabetes drugs, potassium-sparing diuretics, sildenafil, and isoproterenol. L-lysine has a minor interaction with 5-HT4 agonists (used for certain GI conditions).
We could not check L-ornithine alpha ketoglutarate for interactions.
Altogether, these interactions span 487 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up any prescription or over-the-counter drugs you're taking before starting this product.

For each ingredient in Performance Amino-GH with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
L-Arginine
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and ACE inhibitors may increase the risk for hypotension and hyperkalemia.
Combining L-arginine with some antihypertensive drugs, especially ACE inhibitors, seems to have additive vasodilating and blood pressure-lowering effects. Furthermore, ACE inhibitors can increase potassium levels. Use of L-arginine has been associated with hyperkalemia in some patients. Theoretically, concomitant use of ACE inhibitors with L-arginine may increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and ARBs may increase the risk of hypotension and hyperkalemia.
L-arginine increases nitric oxide, which causes vasodilation. Combining L-arginine with ARBs seems to increase L-arginine-induced vasodilation. Furthermore, ARBs can increase potassium levels. Use of L-arginine has been associated with hyperkalemia in some patients. Theoretically, concomitant use of ARBs with L-arginine may increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
Preliminary research suggests that L-arginine infusions reduce platelet aggregation in humans. The clinical significance of this effect is unclear.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Preliminary clinical research shows that L-arginine decreases blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and antihypertensive drugs may increase the risk of hypotension.
L-arginine increases nitric oxide, which causes vasodilation. Clinical evidence shows that L-arginine can reduce blood pressure in some individuals with hypertension. Furthermore, combining L-arginine with some antihypertensive drugs seems to have additive vasodilating and blood pressure-lowering effects.
Isoproterenol (Isuprel)
Theoretically, concurrent use of isoproterenol and L-arginine might result in additive effects and hypotension.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that L-arginine enhances isoproterenol-induced vasodilation in patients with essential hypertension or a family history of essential hypertension.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically concomitant use of potassium-sparing diuretics with L-arginine may increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Potassium-sparing diuretics can increase potassium levels. Use of L-arginine has been associated with hyperkalemia in some patients.
Sildenafil (Viagra)
Theoretically, concurrent use of sildenafil and L-arginine might increase the risk for hypotension.
In vivo, concurrent use of L-arginine and sildenafil has resulted in increased vasodilation. Theoretically, concurrent use might have additive vasodilatory and hypotensive effects. However, in studies evaluating the combined use of L-arginine and sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, hypotension was not reported.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and testosterone might have additive effects.
In clinical research, L-arginine increases the level of testosterone in male patients with erectile dysfunction. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
Calcium
Ceftriaxone (Rocephin)
Co-administration of intravenous calcium and ceftriaxone can result in precipitation of a ceftriaxone-calcium salt in the lungs and kidneys.
Avoid administering intravenous calcium in any form, such as parenteral nutrition or Lactated Ringers, within 48 hours of intravenous ceftriaxone. Case reports in neonates show that administering intravenous ceftriaxone and calcium can result in precipitation of a ceftriaxone-calcium salt in the lungs and kidneys. In several cases, neonates have died as a result of this interaction. So far there are no reports in adults; however, there is still concern that this interaction might occur in adults.
Dolutegravir (Tivicay)
Calcium seems to reduce levels of dolutegravir.
Advise patients to take dolutegravir either 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking calcium supplements. Pharmacokinetic research suggests that taking calcium carbonate 1200 mg concomitantly with dolutegravir 50 mg reduces plasma levels of dolutegravir by almost 40%. Calcium appears to decrease levels of dolutegravir through chelation.
Elvitegravir (Vitekta)
Calcium seems to reduce levels of elvitegravir.
Advise patients to take elvitegravir either 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking calcium supplements. Pharmacokinetic research suggests that taking calcium along with elvitegravir can reduce blood levels of elvitegravir through chelation.
Aluminum
Calcium citrate might increase aluminum absorption and toxicity. Other types of calcium do not increase aluminum absorption.
Calcium citrate can increase the absorption of aluminum when taken with aluminum hydroxide. The increase in aluminum levels may become toxic, particularly in individuals with kidney disease. However, the effect of calcium citrate on aluminum absorption is due to the citrate anion rather than calcium cation. Calcium acetate does not appear to increase aluminum absorption.
Bictegravir/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Alafenamide (Biktarvy)
Calcium might decrease levels of bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide by reducing its absorption when taken in a fasting state.
Advise patients that bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide and calcium can be taken together if taken with food. However, if taken on an empty stomach, bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide should not be taken with, or 2 hours after, calcium containing products.
Bisphosphonates
Calcium reduces the absorption of bisphosphonates.
Advise patients to take bisphosphonates at least 30 minutes before calcium, but preferably at a different time of day. Calcium supplements decrease absorption of bisphosphonates.
Calcipotriene (Dovonex)
Taking calcipotriene with calcium might increase the risk for hypercalcemia.
Calcipotriene is a vitamin D analog used topically for psoriasis. It can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to cause systemic effects, including hypercalcemia. Theoretically, combining calcipotriene with calcium supplements might increase the risk of hypercalcemia.
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Using intravenous calcium with digoxin might increase the risk of fatal cardiac arrhythmias.
Hypercalcemia increases the risk of fatal cardiac arrhythmias with digoxin. However, one retrospective analysis of clinical data suggests that intravenous calcium does not increase the risk of dysrhythmias or mortality in patients receiving digoxin.
Diltiazem (Cardizem, Others)
Theoretically, calcium may reduce the therapeutic effects of diltiazem.
Hypercalcemia can reduce the effectiveness of verapamil in atrial fibrillation. Theoretically, calcium might increase this risk of hypercalcemia and reduce the effectiveness of diltiazem.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption and effectiveness of levothyroxine.
Advise patients to take levothyroxine and calcium supplements at least 4 hours apart. Calcium reduces levothyroxine absorption, probably by forming insoluble complexes. Calcium carbonate supplements reduce effectiveness of levothyroxine in patients with hypothyroidism.
Lithium
Theoretically, concomitant use of calcium and lithium may increase this risk of hypercalcemia.
Clinical research suggests that long-term use of lithium may cause hypercalcemia in 10% to 60% of patients. Theoretically, concomitant use of lithium and calcium supplements may further increase this risk.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of quinolone antibiotics.
Advise patients to take oral quinolones at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after calcium supplements or calcium-fortified foods. Taking calcium at the same time as oral quinolones can reduce quinolone absorption. Calcium binds to quinolones in the gut.
Raltegravir (Isentress)
Calcium may reduce levels of raltegravir.
Pharmacokinetic research shows that taking a single dose of calcium carbonate 3000 mg along with raltegravir 400 mg twice daily modestly decreases the mean area under the curve of raltegravir, but the decrease does not necessitate a dose adjustment of raltegravir. However, a case of elevated HIV-1 RNA levels and documented resistance to raltegravir has been reported for a patient taking calcium carbonate 1 gram three times daily plus vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 400 IU three times daily in combination with raltegravir 400 mg twice daily for 11 months. It is thought that calcium reduced raltegravir levels by chelation, leading to treatment failure.
Sotalol (Betapace)
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of sotalol.
Advise patients to separate doses by at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after calcium. Calcium appears to reduce the absorption of sotalol, probably by forming insoluble complexes.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics.
Advise patients to take oral tetracyclines at least 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after calcium supplements. Taking calcium at the same time as oral tetracyclines can reduce tetracycline absorption. Calcium binds to tetracyclines in the gut.
Thiazide Diuretics
Taking calcium along with thiazides might increase the risk of hypercalcemia and renal failure.
Thiazides reduce calcium excretion by the kidneys. Using thiazides along with moderately large amounts of calcium carbonate increases the risk of milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcemia, metabolic alkalosis, renal failure). Patients may need to have their serum calcium levels and/or parathyroid function monitored regularly.
Verapamil (Calan, Others)
Theoretically, calcium may reduce the therapeutic effects of verapamil.
Hypercalcemia can reduce the effectiveness of verapamil in atrial fibrillation. Theoretically, use of calcium supplements may increase this risk of hypercalcemia and reduce the effectiveness of verapamil.
Calcium Channel Blockers
Intravenous calcium may decrease the effects of calcium channel blockers; oral calcium is unlikely to have this effect.
Intravenous calcium is used to decrease the effects of calcium channel blockers in the management of overdose. Intravenous calcium gluconate has been used before intravenous verapamil (Isoptin) to prevent or reduce the hypotensive effects without affecting the antiarrhythmic effects. But there is no evidence that dietary or supplemental calcium when taken orally interacts with calcium channel blockers.
L-Lysine
5-Ht4 Agonists
Theoretically, lysine may reduce the effects of 5-HT4 agonists.
Animal research suggests that L-lysine is a partial serotonin receptor 4 (5-HT4) antagonist and inhibits diarrhea induced by the 5-HT4 agonist, 5-hydroxytryptophane.
