Total Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by BIOHM
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Total Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Total Probiotic by BIOHM
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
BIOHM Total Probiotic contains 5 active ingredients: three Lactobacillus species (acidophilus, rhamnosus), one Bifidobacterium (breve), and one Saccharomyces yeast (boulardii) — all live microorganisms meant to support gut health. There's also an enzyme, amylase, and a few inactive ingredients (cellulose) that serve as capsule filler.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The probiotics in this blend have been studied for various digestive and immune uses. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus show possibly effective evidence for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and related conditions.
Saccharomyces boulardii is possibly effective for traveler's diarrhea and Clostridioides difficile infection. Bifidobacterium breve has insufficient reliable evidence for most of its studied uses.
Evidence for other claimed uses is limited or mixed across the ingredients.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, because they contain live organisms, there is a small risk of serious infection — particularly bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream) — in people who are critically ill, immunocompromised, or have central venous catheters.
Mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea can occur but are uncommon. The safety data for Saccharomyces boulardii and Bifidobacterium breve in pregnancy and lactation are not on file; Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus are rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or critically ill, speak with your doctor before use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your exact medications before starting, especially antibiotic drugs (Moderate interaction with three of the bacterial strains) and antifungal medications (Minor interaction with the yeast strain). Separating doses may help reduce the interaction.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
BIOHM Total Probiotic is a multispecies blend aimed at digestive and immune support, with the strongest evidence for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and traveler's diarrhea. If you take antibiotics or antifungals, check with your pharmacist — timing matters.
People who are critically ill or have weakened immune systems should not take this without medical clearance.

Total Probiotic by BIOHM Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BIOHM Total Probiotic contains live bacterial and yeast strains that interact with some medications.
The most serious concern is with antibiotics — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus, and Bifidobacterium breve can all theoretically lose effectiveness if you take them at the same time as antibiotic drugs, because the antibiotics may kill the beneficial organisms before they can work. The effect is Moderate severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Saccharomyces boulardii, a live yeast in the blend, has a Minor interaction with antifungal medications — antifungals might reduce the yeast's effectiveness by killing it.
Amylase could not be checked against our interaction database. You can search your exact medications in the tool on this page to see whether any are affected.

For each ingredient in Total Probiotic with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Lactobacillus acidophilus 16axg
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus 18fx
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. rhamnosus.
L. rhamnosus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. rhamnosus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium breve 19bx
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium breve with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. breve.
Since B. breve preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. breve preparations by at least 2 hours.
Saccharomyces boulardii 16mxg
Antifungals
Theoretically, taking antifungals with Saccharomyces boulardii might decrease the effectiveness of Saccharomyces boulardii.
S. boulardii is a live yeast. Therefore, simultaneously taking antifungals might kill a significant number of the organisms.
