Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: your Glucovance already lowers blood sugar, with the glyburide piece in particular able to push it down. Apple cider vinegar may nudge blood sugar a little lower too, partly by slowing how fast your stomach empties after meals. Stacked together, the worry is that they could add up and tip you into low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), with symptoms like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, hunger, or feeling confused.

That said, this is a minor and mostly theoretical concern, and the vinegar research is mixed. A splash in a salad dressing is unlikely to matter much. If you're using concentrated ACV daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your readings. Don't change your medication on your own.

About Apple Cider Vinegar

What is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Blood sugar support
  • Weight management
  • Digestive upset
  • Appetite control
  • Skin and hair care

Apple cider vinegar is a fermented apple product that many people use hoping to help with blood sugar, weight, or digestion. The evidence for most of these uses is limited and mixed, and the modest effects seen in small studies are not a substitute for proven treatments. When diluted and used in small amounts it is generally safe for most people, but undiluted vinegar can harm teeth and the throat.
