Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist with Lyumjev (insulin lispro-aabc), which is a fast-acting mealtime insulin you take to bring your blood sugar down around meals. Apple cider vinegar may, on its own, nudge blood sugar a little lower and slow how fast your stomach empties. Stack that small effect on top of insulin, which is already a powerful glucose-lowering medicine, and in theory you could drift lower than expected, meaning a higher chance of hypoglycemia (shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling faint).

I want to keep this in perspective. This is rated a minor, theoretical interaction, and the studies don't all agree. A splash of vinegar on a salad is unlikely to matter. If you're using concentrated ACV regularly, just check your sugars a bit more closely and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Apple Cider Vinegar

What is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Blood sugar support
  • Weight management
  • Digestive upset
  • Appetite control
  • Skin and hair care

Apple cider vinegar is a fermented apple product that many people use hoping to help with blood sugar, weight, or digestion. The evidence for most of these uses is limited and mixed, and the modest effects seen in small studies are not a substitute for proven treatments. When diluted and used in small amounts it is generally safe for most people, but undiluted vinegar can harm teeth and the throat.
