Ashwagandha + Fexofenadine
Fexofenadine brand name: Allegra.
Ashwagandha has a minor interaction with Fexofenadine. Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Fexofenadine
Fexofenadine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ashwagandha interacts with.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: lab studies hint that ashwagandha may speed up an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one pathway your body uses to clear certain drugs. In theory, that could lower the amount of fexofenadine in your system, meaning your Allegra might not control your sneezing, runny nose, or itchy hives quite as well.
I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube and lab research, not from real people, and fexofenadine actually leans more on transporters than on heavy liver metabolism. So a meaningful drop is unlikely for most folks. If your allergy symptoms seem to creep back after starting ashwagandha, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fexofenadine page
“An over-the-counter allergy pill sounds like the last place serious interactions would hide, but fexofenadine (Allegra) has 154 supplements and foods on file, and the five rated major deserve real attention before you combine it with much of anything else. Two of those five sit in most refrigerators.”

About Ashwagandha
What is Ashwagandha?
- Stress and anxiety
- Sleep problems
- Fatigue and low energy
- Athletic performance
- General well-being (adaptogen)
Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic herb most often taken to help with stress, anxiety, and sleep, and some small studies suggest it may help, though the evidence is still limited. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, but it should be avoided in pregnancy and used cautiously by people with thyroid or liver problems. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.
About Fexofenadine
What Is Fexofenadine Used For?
Brand name: Allegra
Fexofenadine temporarily relieves symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and other upper respiratory allergies, including runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.
Several products — including Allegra Hives 24hr tablets — are specifically used to reduce hives (urticaria) and relieve the itching that comes with them. Keep in mind that fexofenadine will not prevent hives or stop an allergic skin reaction from happening in the first place.
