Osimertinib Mesylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ashwagandha interacts with.

Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Here's the basic idea with osimertinib (Tagrisso). Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process this medication. Some lab studies suggest ashwagandha might rev up that enzyme a bit, which in theory could clear osimertinib out of your system a little faster and leave less of it working against your cancer. With a serious drug like this, even a small drop in effectiveness is something we never want to gamble on.

I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from test-tube research, not from real people, so we don't truly know if it matters in everyday life. Because osimertinib is treating cancer, I'd play it safe. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding ashwagandha, rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.

About Osimertinib

What Is Osimertinib Used For?

Brand name: Tagrisso

Tagrisso is used to treat adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have specific EGFR mutations — either an exon 19 deletion or an exon 21 L858R mutation — confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is used in several settings: after surgery to reduce the risk of cancer returning (adjuvant therapy), for locally advanced stage III NSCLC that has not progressed after chemoradiation, and as a first-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC (including in combination with pemetrexed and platinum-based chemotherapy).

Tagrisso is also approved for adults with metastatic NSCLC that carries a specific resistance mutation called T790M, when the cancer has stopped responding to another EGFR-targeted therapy.
